The events in 2020 have had a significant effect on the cybersecurity industry. Remote workforce, rush to digitalization, shifting responsibilities, cybersecurity burnout and a refocus on supply-chain resulting from SolarWinds breach has created a perfect storm for attackers and defenders. This panel will focus on emerging threat vectors, attack surfaces and tactical strategies defenders are leveraging to address perfect storm conditions. The unemployment rate for cybersecurity professionals—the people protecting us from cyber-attacks—is zero (some studies say it could be even higher), and the majority of these professionals (59%) are open to leaving their current jobs. This recruiting and retention challenge is a very serious national security issue. It’s no wonder the question I am most frequently asked is: “What are the ‘best ways’ to attract, hire and retain talent?”

The stereotype of a hoodie-clad man at a terminal in a dark room – a myth our schools perpetuate – is harmful. Those in cyber security can change this right now!
